2023 Season

Another fabulous hockey season from our Ryde Juniors! We are very proud to be one of the biggest and most successful Junior clubs in Sydney and this year Ryde delivered again, winning the North Area Junior Club Championship for the 19th successive year!

Ryde Juniors fielded an incredible 211 Junior Athletes an increase from last year, and we formed 16 Junior Teams:

  • 1 x U7 Minkey Team;
  • 2 x U9 Minkey Teams;
  • 4 x U11 Teams;
  • 3 x U13 teams;
  • 3 x U15 teams;
  • 3 x U17 teams.

The season ran from mid-march through 15 or 16 rounds of competition culminating in finals in September. Ryde Juniors had 6 teams into the Grand Finals and a further 3 into Semi Finals. Fabulous achievements across all the age groups, as follows:

  • U11 Panthers – Div A Premiers;
  • U11 Tigers – Div B Runners Up;
  • U11 Lions – Div C Semi Finalists;
  • U11 Jaguars – Div C 6th Place;
  • U13 Panthers – Div A Joint Premiers;
  • U13 Tigers – Div B Semi Finalists;
  • U13 Lions – Div C 8th Place;
  • U15 Panthers – Div A (Metro) Runners Up for the Colin Manning Trophy
  • U15 Tigers – Div B Premiers;
  • U15 Lions – Div C 6th Place;
  • U17 Panthers – Div A (Metro) Premiers and winners of the Kevin Connelly Trophy
  • U17 Tigers – Div B Semi Finalists;
  • U17 Lions – Div C 5th Place.

2023 again saw more than 60 Ryde Juniors representing at various state championships. Ryde Juniors were also well represented at state level in 2023 with 23 athletes making the state squads:

  • 4 from our U13’s – Annabelle Roxburgh, Angela Kirby, Harvey Taylor and Lachlan Albert;
  • 8 from our U15’s – Beatrix Taylor, Elly Bestwick, Matilda Reitz, Piers Webster, Amos Mashiah, Aaron Krohn, Rory Morris and Owen Kirby.
  • And 11 from our U17’s – Katie Bates, Annabelle O’Hara, Kade Anderson, Oli Bestwick, Joey Coles, Jared Findley, Alex May, Finlay Morris, Joshua Robson, Gurmann Singh Pawar, and Cedric Timpers.

 

2022 Season

In the first full season back post COVID lockdowns and disruptions, Ryde Juniors excelled across all the age groups and completed a great season. Overall results as follows:

  • U11 Panthers – Div A Joint Premiers;
  • U11 Tigers – 3rd in Div B;
  • U11 Lions – Div C Minor and Major Premiers;
  • U13 Panthers – Div A Premiers;
  • U13 Tigers – 5th in Div B;
  • U13 Lions – 5th in Div C;
  • U15 Panthers – Div A (Metro) Runners Up for the Colin Manning Trophy
  • U15 Tigers – Div B Premiers;
  • U15 Lions – 6th in Div C;
  • U17 Panthers – Div A (Metro) Premiers and winners of the Kevin Connelly Trophy
  • U17 Tigers – Preliminary Finalists in Div B;
  • U17 Lions – Preliminary Finalists in Div C.

An amazing season – 6 Ryde teams into Grand Finals and a further 2 into Preliminary Finals. 😊

Ryde Juniors represented extremely well at representative level for our association North West Sydney Hockey Association (NWSHA) with over 60 Junior Athletes competing at various tournaments across all age groups. Ryde Juniors were also well represented at state level in 2022 with 22 athletes making the state squads:

  • 4 from our U13’s – Aaron Findley, Matilda Reitz, Rory Morris and Owen Kirby
  • 11 from our U15’s – Kade Anderson, Hamish Geraghty, Naia Lopez, Finlay Morris (GK), Cedric Timpers, Annabelle O’Hara, Katie Bates, Piers Webster, Amos Mashiah (GK), Aaron Krohn and Beatrix Taylor.
  • And 7 from our U17’s – Joey Coles (GK), Oli Flokstra, Jared Findley, Alex May, Gurmann Singh Pawar, Joshua Robson and Sebastien Griffith

 

2021 Season

A truncated season, starting after lockdown # 1 in February / March and getting cut short in July from lockdown # 2. Nevertheless, 17 junior teams managed a fabulous ‘half season’ as follows:

  • U7 Panthers;
  • U9 Panthers
  • U9 Tigers;
  • U11 Panthers – 2nd in Div A;
  • U11 White Tigers – 6th in Div A;
  • U11 Tigers – 4th in Div B;
  • U11 Lions – 3rd in Div C;
  • U11 Jaguars – 5th in Div C;
  • U13 Panthers – 2nd in Div A;
  • U13 Tigers – 3rd in Div B;
  • U13 Lions – 6th in Div C;
  • U15 Panthers – 6th in Div A (Metro);
  • U15 Tigers – 2nd in Div B;
  • U15 Lions – 3rd in Div C;
  • U17 Panthers – 1st in Div A (Metro);
  • U17 Tigers – 5th in Div A (Metro);
  • U17 Lions – 4th in Div C.

75 Ryde Juniors represented North West Sydney Hockey Association across all age groups from U11 to U18 age groups. Ryde Juniors were also well represented at state level in 2021 with 20 athletes making the state squads:

  • 4 from our U13’s – Aaron Findley, Leah Pope, Matilda Reitz and Piers Webster
  • 11 from our U15’s – Kade Anderson, Oliver Bestwick, Jared Findley, Oli Flokstra, Hamish Geraghty, Naia Lopez, Alex May, Finlay Morris (GK), Gurmann Singh Pawar, Joshua Robson and Cedric Timpers.
  • And 5 from our U17’s – Kayla Beaton, Sebastien Griffith, Jaylen Harrison, Meghan May and Liam Phelan.

 

2020 Season

With over 220 Ryde Junior athletes, 12 junior teams, 5 Minkey Teams, COVID lockdown and back for a shortened season it was quite a year. The Ryde Junior teams finished the shortened season as follows:

  • U7 Panthers;

  • U9 Panthers
  • U9 Tigers;
  • U9 Lions
  • U11 Panthers – Minor and Major Div A Premiers;
  • U11 Tigers – 6th in Div B;
  • U11 Lions – 7th in Div C;
  • U13 Panthers – Minor and Major Div A Premiers;
  • U13 Tigers – Major Premiers in Div B;
  • U13 Lions – Minor and Major Div C Premiers;
  • U15 Panthers – Minor and Major Div A (Metro) Premiers, winners of the Colin Manning Trophy;
  • U15 Tigers – 3rd in Div B;
  • U15 Lions – 7th in Div C;
  • U17 Panthers – Major Div A (Metro) Premiers, winners of the Kevin Conelly Trophy;
  • U17 Tigers – Minor and Major Div B Premiers;

2020 saw 20 Ryde Junior athletes selected for the HNSW U13, 15 and 18 State Squads.
