SNWHA Opens reach Championship Final
Last month the SNWHA (Sydney North Women’s Hockey Assoc.) Opens
team went through the rounds undefeated and progressed to the all age
finals Div. 2 Grand Final yesterday afternoon taking out the HockeyNSW
Opens State Championship at Narellan, beating
South Coast 5-1 in a hard fought game. SNWHA’s strong defence
thwarting the South Coast attack, well executed game plays by mid field
help advance the ball which was finished off by some tenacious goal
scoring by the our attack.
SNWHA is our Ryde Women’s, and several other
Clubs, Home Association and which only commenced submitting a team in to
the Opens about 4 years ago, winning Div. 3 in the first year coached
by John Arnold, progressed to Div. 2 grand finalists
the last 2 years with coach John Cullen at the helm and now on our 3rd
attempt and thanks to the experience and guidance of our coach, Richard
Sharp, Div. 1 here we come. This was quite an achievement with a very
young, if not perhaps the youngest
team at the Opens/Any Age State Championships this year with 3 x 15
year olds, 2 x 16 year olds, 5 x 18 year olds, 2 x 20 year olds and our 2
Over 21’s being Ryde players Bec and Tami.
All in all we had 5 Ryde players in the team – see photo
(left to right) Jaimi Newman, Tami Griffiths, Rebecca Buchannan, Rachelle Pole and Alexandra Morrison.
Alex Morrison and Rachelle Pole were also successfully selected in to the HockeyNSW 2014 U21 squad.
